Our Mission, Vision & Beliefs
Our Mission
The mission of the Harrison K-8 Elementary School Counseling Program is to advocate for all students to ensure that all students have access to equitable opportunities and a safe learning environment to maximize success in academic achievement, foster social-emotional learning and growth, and promote college and career development. All members of the community, including students, parents, educators, businesses, and community service organizations will collaborate to achieve these goals. Through cultural sustaining practices that can be found in core-curriculum, small groups, individual counseling, and school-wide activities, students will be educated in a manner that promotes self-esteem, confidence, responsibility, and respect, along with graduating as productive citizens who are skilled communicators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers.
Our Vision
The vision of the Harrison K-8 Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students so that ALL students have the equitable opportunity to achieve academic success, social-emotional growth, and attain College & Career skills to reach their fullest potential and become lifelong learners. Harrison students will develop an empowered and resilient voice to advocate for themselves and for a society that values compassion, diversity, and positive change in an ever-transforming world.
Harrison's K-8 School Counselor Believes:
- I believe in creating an equitable environment that fosters opportunities for all to reach their full social/emotional, college/career, and academic potential.
- I believe in cultivating an inclusive school-climate where all students feel represented, understood, supported, and welcomed regardless of their beliefs, ethnicity, race, gender identity, and special needs.
- I believe my role as an advocate for students includes using data to drive practice and intervention, as well as pushing for policy and curriculum that is diverse and inclusive so that all students can succeed, and are represented and supported.
- I believe in creating a strong comprehensive school counseling program that encourages collaboration and consultation, as well as the use of data as a tool to detect opportunity gaps that can be addressed in support and interventions.
- I believe the ASCA Ethical School Counseling Standards are instrumental in enhancing our obligations and responsibilities to students.
- I believe that ALL students have the ability to succeed.
